First Rockchuck of the year.
« on: February 20, 2009, 04:02:14 PM »
Took a drive out to the orchard today to see if any chuck's were out and about, caught this guy sunning himself at 171 yards and whacked him with the old Mauser 7x57 and a 140gr Nosler Accubond. The rifle is a 60+ year old $39.00 mail order rifle my fathers father handed down to him and from my father down to me in my younger years, a 3 generation truck rifle. It started it's varmint carrier way back in Ellensburg WA, still shoots like a laser. :IBCOOL:

He looks a little empty :chuckle:
I've hunted almost everyday of my life, the rest have been wasted.

I never shot the hogs until they have brought the young litter out, about the middle of May. Then just shoot the little ones, more challenge and leaves the older ones to keep producing so you never run out of shooting.  Like farming. Of course if they are doing damage and you want to eliminate the colony now's the time to get them.
